Straight, No Chaser
Using the scale and chord construction sheet posted below, start putting together 2 types of common tone solos over the blues changes in Thelonious Monk's 'Straight, No Chaser' (track via YouTube below). You can play along with one of three sample tempi below; 100bpm, 130, or 160.

September's Performance Test
Submit an audio recording to firstname.lastname@example.org with a recording of arpeggiated 1-3-5-b7s to go along with the form of Straight, No Chaser. Use one the files on the left side of this screen to be your accompaniment, and make sure you record yourself so I can hear both you and the backing track easily. (I will post an example file shortly, stay tuned!)
September & October's Theory Tests
There will be an in-class quiz on building Mixolydian scales on Monday, October 29th. You will be asked to write out all three mixolydian scales in Straight, No Chaser and then rearrange them to the closest common tone.
There will also be an in-class quiz on building Dorian scales on Monday, October 29th. You will be asked to write out both Dorian scales in Milestones.
